When Sam started kindergarten he was asked to learn 100 fry words by the end of the year. Research shows
- 25 words make up approximately 1/3 of all items published.
- 100 words comprise approximately 1/2 of all of the words found in publications.
- 300 words make up approximately 65% of all written material.
As the weeks went by, Sam would ask to study his fry words. We didn't do them everyday and I never told him he had to study them. After he mastered the first 100, I didn't want him to feel pressured. He was doing great in school and I didn't want to push him to the point he didn't enjoy learning.
One thing Sam does have though is a love for learning. He loves reading, he loves you to give him challenging math problems and he is always asking "why" because he doesn't just want an answer. Sam wants to understand why things happen the way they do.
Sam said he wanted to be the 4th kid to complete the 1,000 word Fry Word Challenge........and he was! We are VERY PROUD of you Sam! We love watching you learn and we are blessed to have a son who has a strong will power and the drive to learn everyday!
| Sam received a basket of his favorite goodies today during the school wide award assembly. Mrs. Diane filled a basket full of sweet tea, gum, skittles, and mini marsh-mellows. Daddy came to to watch him receive his award, which meant the world to him. When we got home he said, "I was the most popular kid at school today!" |
